Eurovision nightGot myself some ice cream and will be making myself compfy on the sofa so I'm ready for the big, glittery, horrible music, camp, pointless politics, drama that is eurovision. It never disappoints me.

Sadly I will be alone for this one. Matt had to do a concert he didn't want to do, so I will be live tweeting (humonlazydiva) my impression of the whole shebang.

The Echo chamber dilemmaThe promise of the Internet was that unlimited information and experiences would draw us together. But instead it seems to have driven us apart.
For years I've observed this behavior but haven't been able to vocalize it correctly. Originally I called the behavior of collective opinions as "the hive mentality" of the Internet. But that wasn't exactly right and I often got called out on it. The most prominent example was when I made a comic about a guy disagreeing with opinions and being shouted at till he remained quiet, eventually fading into the background with everyone else. The consensus of that comic was that if you disagree with someone you aren't bullied into not speaking, but instead are free to go someplace else where people who do agree with you exist. And you know what? That wasn't what i was trying to convey, but is sadly true. The Internet is not a hive mind. It's many tiny pocket echo chambers of mutual agreements.

Who'd like to be a part of dA history?

Many of you who are watching this group are die-hard dA enthusiasts. You are looking for a quality group that features fine art. And many of you have noticed a recent change in the floundering of our nascence. Hopefully by now you have noticed that we are a very strong collective of photographic artists. The 2,500 of you that watch us are probably wondering where all the new deviations are coming from. Some of you may have forgotten that you joined the group at all.

We're essentially an entirely new group, but one that that started with a 2,500 member base and a bit of a history.

If you like the new changes (and I personally think this particular team [

] is spectacular), then please donate to restore us to a supergroup.

We have nearly 1,000 members, and about 2,500 watchers.  If only half of our members (approximately 500 people) donated 10 points each (8 cents, U.S.), we could get a supergoup status.  It would be half that if the watchers contributed.

How 'bout it?  Are you willing to give literally a nickel to make this group a supergroup?

How to donate
You may have noticed that there is no  "Give" dropdown menu on the Group's homepage. If you try to donate directly to the group from your account you will receive a message saying "you cannot donate points to a group". In order to help us you should donate points to the founder

who has started a donation pool on her home page. With those points we will buy a subscription for the group. We will also post a report about donations on the blog page to keep you up to date. Remember, when you donate points, always write in the message box "for fineart-photography". Supergroup status will allow us to do a lot more!
