Hello members and contributors,
I just want to clarify a point that has been raised a few times. Other groups, though by all means not all, give reasons why some deviations are declined, why is fineart-photography not doing it?
We have considered it but there is a major problem: there are only three people involved in the voting and we do not work full time on DA! there are lots of members, several contributors and it gets too much really. We have a few options here:
1. accept that for now no reasons can be given. If your work is not accepted it does not mean that it is not good. Some members flood us with submissions, some members keep on submitting the same deviations again and again - please dont do that, once it is declined accept it with good grace - some members do not really bother to ascertain  the kind of images that seem to fit in with the fineart-photography ethos.
2. We can begin a major overhaul of the group, which is still run like the former club. Introduce more admin, have gallery moderators, that kind of thing.
Please let us have your views. We want the group to be fully functional and to everyone's taste, as far as possible.

+ Edit by Ordinary-ironic

Members who are not sure if their work fits into our group can browse through our already submitted / accepted works to get an impression of what we are looking for.

I was allowed recently to join the group but to my surprise not any of my submitted photos were accepted. It could have been better out of courtesy to explain to the member why the submission was rejected. Oh yes, I know it is clearly in your precious journal but what's the use of socializing with group when a member cannot even share their precious photos?

The admins could had also reviewed the applicant's workmanship prior to accepting them as a member. Does this makes sense?

Once again, I invite you (admins, members, etc.) to visit my stream and tell me if it is really worth rejecting. If it is then I wonder what level of quality is this group looking for.

I received this message from the group's admin and just want to share with the rest.

Quote:
"hey, thanks for reading the journal clearly. like you have maybe allready noticed we declined your works so far. its not mainly because you do HDR images. IT's more because your borders around the images. and that you submited lots of work at once.
If they look to edited we won't accept them. And of course its also digital age of photography. But we want to see that epople can do both. Analogical and digital. Or that they at least know the roots of every programm like lightroom, photoshop,.....

i hope you are not angry with us about declins."

As explained in one of the recent blogs we do not necessarily have time to write comments on images that are declined. We are not the only group that does so. We are very short staffed at present. Images are not declined because they are not good, they are declined because they do not fit the group's criteria. Sometimes there may be too many images that resemble or echo each other and we need variety in our gallery, sometimes people submit too many images in one go and we cannot accept them all en masse. Not right for this group does not mean that the image is not good. If your work is declined please accept the decision with good grace and do submit your work to another group. You may resubmit at a later stage - but clearly not the following day! I suggest people should look at the gallery folders and also the favs folders to get an idea of what works for this group.

I will not reply quoting phrase by phrase.

I will reply with a constructive spirit though !

I want to state publicly that when this was a Club I never flooded it with my submissions. I behaved like its rules permitted.
I felt honoured because all my submissions were considered Fine Art Photography and were accepted (btw they are still "hanging" in the Club/Group (?) galleries).

I did found a Club (premium account) last year. It is a Super Group now and we (the Administration give their contribution in partial time as we all have our own lifes).
We do not have submissions in queue nor do we have rejections before "talking" with our members.
My option ... valid and followed by my Team !

I do not use my Group to self-promotion and I do not have any of my photos there - my option - I use my personal account for that and I ask for constructive comments.

All the best ... and, although you do not need my Artwork around, I'll come back when it is professionally run again (this is not a personal attack to any individual of the Team of this Group).

I'll keep my path - quality - no matter what !

"If you can't do the time, don't bother starting one in the first place."
I can agree with that.

Anyway, I do enjoy this group, quite a bit.
In effort to steer clear of bad first impressions, I'd like to state my confusion for some of my discontent with recent submissions.
I've only ever submitted less than 4 pieces, and I've not yet seen them accepted.

This would be no problem, had I known that perhaps I was, in fact, in the incorrect group. I suppose, all of our views of, "fine-art," are perhaps a bit too different.

Like I said, I really enjoy this group, and the work put into it. Very selective, very specific, very nice. But, when it comes to the contributions, I'm not sure if I'm here just to watch, or to be apart of.

I agree with @zbalo13, I too have voted with my feet believing it a mistake to have joined this group. I never understood why people start clubs/groups in dA, then complain that they never get the time or help to maintain them properly. IMHO if you cant do the time, dont bother starting one in the first place.

obviously, it was a mistake to join that group. if the quality is not a reason to decline the contribution, what than? you recently declined some my works, i believe not to be too superb to consider those in any way better than some works you accepted. so, not to annoying you and to vasteyour precious time, i leave...

Now this is an example of not being able to accept with good grace that perhaps too many submissions were made AND that some of them, though very good were not suitable for this group. Walking away in a huff does not help...
