boot-cheese-3000 (Dwayne) has inspired this gallery show. His question was: "
Where are the tasteful erotic art nudes featuring black and Latina women?" Indeed. I was aware of the racial bias in fashion, but the scarcity in art nude of women of colour, or Asian women for that matter, had not really struck me until I read the comment by Dwayne.
I searched the nude galleries here on dA to find work featuring non-white models. Fortunately there is some, and it is outstanding. True, the great majority of art nude models tend to be white and replicate the stereotype of the blonde, blue eyed, Caucasian woman as a classical beauty prototype. But not always. This show demonstrates that there is a shift in perception in contemporary photographic work. We can only applaud the photographers for pushing boundaries, for abandoning the view that women of colour are primarily sex objects and over-sexed primitive beings, and for embracing greater diversity in their image making.
